Hey bob,

i'm trying to install linux again, and i've tried lots of flavors, but this time i'm trying Mandrake 10.0 because I thought hey I should start with an easy realease and then work my way up to it.

so here I am Installing Mandrake and it's done I selected to install that xsystem or whatever to get a gui and I selected KDE as the gui or something like that.

anywho on the final boot I see

login as root, then type kdm.
let me know what that does.

Also, if you pm me a user account/password plus the IP . I can log in and check that everything is installed.

Then place your toe to your ear, hold your breath, wear nothing but a pair of soiled underwear, rub your bum against Gray, and peck at the keyboard with your nose. This will boot up Tux Racer, the best Linux game ever.

Well, maybe it's not quite that bad to get something going. ;)

What hardware, video-wise are you running.

also don't use xf86config, it sucks. Use xf86cfg -textmode

if you use xf86cfg without the switch it should start an Xserver.... but the mouse won't work lol

well right now I went through reinstalling and this time i'm testing all video modes none of them seem to be working

it was a cirrus logic 5440

so i'm trying other video cards until I can get a good test on setup
