One of the only good technologies to come out of 3dfx has come back:

Bloody cool. Though, I hope they allow it to occur with some mid-ranged cards. Buying 2 6800 Ultras seems *slightly* excessive in price. ;)

2 regular 6800's--that I could maybe live with. Here's hoping Ati responds with a MAXX version (see my old post on their military simulater--they can easily do this. Heck, the 3XX series can link up to 256 GPU's at once. 2 outta be super easy for them).

EDIT:

Here's 3 more links:

EDIT2:

Apparently it will work with 6800's. W00t!

EDIT3:

6800 GT's appear to be the lowest common denominator. Yet again, misinformation spread by Tom for EDIT2.

I think I'll wait for an AMD based systems and a couple of 6600 GT's.

Alienware has an option already, but it's just a little expensive. ;)

Pretty awesome patch:

http://techreport.com/onearticle.x/9465

It allows Nvidia cards to be run in SLI on mobo's from ATI, ULI, VIA, and on the Nforce4 Ultra boards with dual PCIE slots (ie. DFI Ultra-D).

Hybrid SLI:

Just like the Crossfire version, you would use the onboard IGP for small load stuff and only fire up your video cards for high load stuff.
