Windows 2000 Awarded for Security
By earning the Common Criteria (CC) Certification, Windows 2000 has achieved the highest security certification of any commercially available product.
hmmm, confusion... but wait, what's the one word that clears it all up... 'commercially'
OK! Now I get it!:p

why on earth would we realy care about security?
I have a firewall on my comp and well there have been no hackers in my comp i dont know about anyone else here but i have had no security problems.
P.S.
Again if your using windows would you please stop bashing it.

You dont know about security problems because you have no way of knowing. Most windows firewalls arent that good, and dont protect very well against worms, or trojans that well. We would care about security because people can steal your bandwidth and use it for their own purposes, as well as take your personal firewalls. Thats like asking why would we use seatbelts. You take it for granted that there is marginal security on windows machines.
As for the "if you use it dont bitch about it". Why not? We bitch about our jobs if we dont like them, and there is options there. We bitch about crappy cars, yet we still drive them. The situations arent any differnt. If you dont like windows, bitch away. The option of switching to linux isnt neccesarily viable for everyone..

but there is a difference. Linix is "free" now a job is something you must have and a car is not free that is my point. Windows is also not free so why spent the $ on it if ya hate it.
I dont use my Windows firewall i use others i know widows has a crappy firewall that is why i dont use it.

The situations are no different. You need an operating system. The cost isnt a factor since they are both relatively free(how many copies of windows have you paid for?).
I didnt say the windows firewall. I said firewalls for windows. IE software firewalls such as Zone alarm, arent very good since the existing security holes in windows itself are enough for hackers to fuck up your system.

I use my router to block hackers, since software firewalls are shit.
There are versions of Linux that you could buy, but smart people don't spend money on software that's available for free. Hacked stuff is cool if you don't think it deserves money. ie: windows, or a simple ftp app or something.

Paul what is your opinion of Norton. Is this still in the "shit" firewall category. I haven't spent any money on windows so I guess Im free to bitch

Norton is one of the better constructed firewalls, mostly because its made by a giant coporation for large corporations (thats their primary market, Im not saying that they dont get alot of sales in the home market). I still stand on my point that my analogies are correct. There is always a choice, sometimes you just dont take it.

Actually guys to properly do it you should have a good DMZ which means your behind 2 firewalls.
Sure a router is a Great firewall but that only stops people like me getting in your system, but if a "REAL" Hacker wanted to they would get in.

Then on top of that Encrypted Passwords BLA BLA BLA
Why don't we have to worry ?????
Because we have nothing a hacker wants.
Why do companies have to worry????
Because hackers stealing info can loose them money.
