Canada is soon to be 12... or so I've heard. Not that it applys to me anyways.

Looks like Chile, Malta, Mexico, Holland, Panama, and Paraguay are at 12, so Canada will join that prestigeous list. (lowest AOC in the world)

I've had this site bookmarked for a while...for educational purposes only of course.

Anyway, the only place I have heard anything about the age of consent in Canada being lowered to 12 is from Jason - so I'm not sure if it is somthing that is actually happening or if he is just trying to stir up support to change it for some reason.

16 is a good age to stay at

The age of consent should be raised to sixteen in my opinion. But even 14 is better then 12. I hope it stays high. I can understand the sodomy age being higher but keeping the same sex female age the same as heterosexuals just creates the sexual stereotypes that keep women in the role of sex objects. I Both types of relationships were wrong based on the religion of the men who made the laws, and that is the reason behind the same sex age laws. (As far as I know) somewhere along the line of history the female same sex age was raised. Could this be because the lawmakers in Canada are still primarily men? Most likely!

Whether or not the age of consent should be raised, I cant say. However, there are a few flaws in your arguments.

1.

Women as sex objects will never change simply because there will always be men in the world. The idea that the laws of consent lead to sexual stereotypes is ridiculous. Most people arent even aware that there is a separate age of consent for same sex female consent. Using the same logic you did, the intercourse for hetero couples could lead to men being viewed as a sex object is valid. Oh wait! Men are viewed as sex object regardless, the only difference is that they dont make a big deal about it like women do. It may not be as pronounced as it is with women, but it never will be, since we live in a patriarchal society. Im sick of this being brought up in unrelated or very loosely associated arguments. Yes women should be treated with equality. Changing the male half of the population from male to emasculated is never going to happen, so dont try. (yes that is what people suggest when they say "Dont view women as sex objects". If I dont know a woman, chances are im not thinking about how nice her personality is. End of story. Find me a guy who will say differently; he's lying or hes gay.)

If you're going to have consent laws, they should be uniform across the board and not broken up by relationship style.

If you're going to go that way route, only male-on-male relationships are wrong based on the religion of the lawmakers, since lesbian relationships are not mentioned in the bible to my knowledge (Correct me if Im wrong Jason), and have generally been ignored by church and society up until the mid 70's. Both preferring to deny the existence of lesbian relationships.

What are you talking about when you say the female same sex age was raised? Its the same as hetero sex consent age in Canada. The only difference in age of consent in Canada is for Male Homosexual relationships and thats because of the element of Sodomy.
