Are you Serious? That's pretty crazy, I wonder if any other film has ever won that many Oscars.

I do believe Titanic had thirteen oscars and fourteen or fifteen nominations

Yeah, they said during the show that LOTR tied Titanic and Ben Hur for 11 Oscars each. The most in history. Does anybody remember how LOTR faired in the last two years?

I think it basically only won for effects and costume and music in past years.

That's the reason I think they showered so many awards on it this year. Give it a lackluster hauling in past years and then unload on it at the end of the trilogy.

Yeah. You could be right. I do wish, however, that The Last Samurai had won something. I thought it was a very good movie, and a decent depiction of the Samurai. (It's not like I'm biased or anything)

I think the first one made a much better movie, and really deserved more awards. However, the Oscars are generally a popularity contest. Not as much as other award shows, but to some extent nonetheless. They most likely saw the first two as too 'common' to recieve awards, but as the films grew in popularity they recieved more credit.

Ben-Hur was an awesome movie. It dragged a little between the action scenes, but what movie doesn't? The fact that the chariot scene used enough film to make 7 movies and a guy died during it makes Ben-Hur my favourite of the three. Plus, it's Mr. NRA himself going out there and kicking @$$! LOTR:TROK is just a hair behind, though. ;)
