Apparently the American government is working on armour for foot soldiers that can be turned on or off....
Read the article for a better description... Sounds interesting either way...

Actually, Ford developed the black goop awhile ago. MIT is the one doing the amour research. Ford is thinking of using it as a replacement for the clutch in transmissions. No more gear grinding and super easy shifting. The Humvee's might also get ionic plate shielding like on Enterprise.
In 10 years it might be an excellent time to join the military, eh?
(Though, the new M-class assault rifles look kinda toy-like...........cool, but toy-like)

Once they get the kinks worked out, I think this stuff will have tons of applications.
