Until Linux shows me that it's better then windows I still choose windows anyday
My server is 2000 and it does everything it needs to

Anybody else notice that NT 4 was deemed "unfixable" the day 2003 was released?
And then how the /. readers found a temporary fix that same day, also?
On a side note, Pinto, if yer gonna throw immense computing power (server-wise) at an OS, I would hope it does everything you want it to. One of the benefits of Linux is to do more with less. Besides, Microsoft put in that special pr0n server plugin for 2000 that gives Windows an unfair advantage in your "serving" needs
***EDIT***
-fixed grammaticaly error in pr0n line

I think there is proof enough that Linux is better for serving. Notice the fact that any game with Multiplayer of any significance has a Linux server released. Notice how most of the Quake 3 servers on the web are dedicated Linux servers? Hmmm I wonder what that means.

yes yes i must agree with pinto on this. Untill Linix becomes as super easy to undersand, drivers are at your fingertips and all the games and softwere out the comes with linux drivers on them and will install and run as soon as you get it then i will stay with windows i have no problems with windows so if it ant broken the whey the hell try to fix it.
Pluse
Dempsey we have had a poll on this and well im pritty shure that Win XP won by 2.2% I think
If theres gona be a good poll there shold be one that is What operating system are you running right now. Ge i think windows would realy kick ass then now wouldent it hmmmm. Ya thats what i thought.

Yeah, but for serving it DOES meet all of your requirements, Pimpin Matt. ANY f00 can pop in a Mandrake install and serve off it while still retaining the benefits of Linux. I've forgotten the name of it, but Homey V's version of linux will run off the CD and you'll get all the benefits of linux. If ya can pop in a cd, you can run his version. And I'm gonna assume that everyone here can load a CD (PLEASE don't prove me wrong on this one, guys

)

Ya I use Kinopix or Klinopx (not shure how to spell)(this is pauls version of linix for jason reference) when im trying to get someones computer to go when the fuck up windows so bad that it wont even boot. AKA they let there 7year old kid on the comp and he goes delete crazy. And yes J you have a point that it is user frendly i will agree with ya on that( strike the comment about me saying that its hard to understand from last post) But, what im realy getting at is drivers and games i want to play a game as soon as i buy it not wait untill someone makes it work on linix.

Yeah, but that's my point. When it comes to SERVING (let's forget about playing games as clients here), Linux has oodles of drivers. They've got the best for serving, pure and simple. Their TCP drivers kick the snot outta Windows (download something off the net with Windows and then try Linux.......you'll see a difference). While the arguement of Linux not being as good a platform for gaming (which is diminishing, I think), one has to admit that for serving Linux can't be beat. Serving was what this thread was about (well, actually it was Windows 2003's launch

), and in this category Linux wins hands down. Cost, abilities, ease of use (I mean, with appt get you don't even need to INSTALL the bloody progs......it does it for you.....and we're all that lazy

), and overall performance all point towards to Linux.
