Why? Why does anyone even use OSS anymore? ALSA is clearly the better standard and has more options... I would have thought that teh Carmack would be aware of this...

No, they arent breasts, they're personalities, because its ok to like a girl for her personalities
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man

Patch to get it to run on a Voodoo 2 system.
Yes, you read that right. The screenshot under patch 1.0 are pretty cool.
EDIT:
Here's some more screens:

Do they fix any of the massive problems that there were in the first linux Binaries?

Linux Doom III 1.1.1286 build:
There are new GNU/Linux binaries for Doom3 on the ftp[1] and the BitTorrent tracker[2]. This build is compatible with the previous release, brings a number of bug fixes and new sound code. Alsa[2] and multichannel sound output are now supported.
No GUI changes were made in order to remain compatible with the first release, you will need to set some cvars on the command line to configure your sound:
set s_driver to best, alsa or oss. (best will just try alsa and fallback to OSS otherwise )
set s_numberOfSpeakers to 2 for stereo, 6 for multichannel sound ( whatever your actual number of speakers may be ).
For instance:
doom3 +set s_driver alsa +set s_numberOfSpeakers 6
will start doom3 using the Alsa sound backend in multichannel mode
notes about OSS:
The Linux kernel comes with the OSS/Free API, which works great in most cases but lacks multichannel support. You can download a binary OSS/Linux implementation from 4Front Technologies[4]. To sum up, the drivers are 'free for non commercial use'. You can use them to play Doom III. They have great multichannel support, and that's the drivers I used to develop the OSS backend.
Thanks to everyone who helped testing this build .. and thanks for the positive Linux feedback emails we've been getting..

They put in ALSA if that's what you mean.

Mostly yes
There were some other major bugs listed in the first release that I was curious about, but I suppose it doesnt really matter if they fixed Alsa support.

If you're interested in making mods for DOOM 3, want to download the SDK, or just want to see how some of the DOOM 3 technology magic works, we're now offering all of this information at www.iddevnet.com. At idDevNet you can find all of the tools, information and downloads you need to start making mods using the most powerful gaming engine ever released. If you're just looking for the SDK, you can download it here. You must have DOOM 3 installed for the SDK to work, so if you haven't purchased it yet, make sure to pick up a copy from the id Store.

Where were you looking?
Note that the link in that quote is super old and the SDK 2 is out with vehicle support. Available from:

Just in case that there are some problems at id's end, here's the fileplanet link:

I actually thought you wouldn't have bothered with this one what with a recent SDK release and all, Half Life Boy.
Gonna be interesting to see who licenses what.
Current tabs off the top of my head:
Valve = 1 (Vampire)
id = 1 (Quake IV)
Though, I'm sure there's a boatload more. Those just seem to be the only ones I'm remotely concerned with.

Worst...........game.........to........movie.......adaption.........EVA!!!
I liked it the first time.......when they called it Resident Evil.
At least I got some T&A for a main character then. Good T&A that is. As in, it was a woman.
Shut up.
