I think everyone's ignoring the basic cinematic rules inherent in the Matrix.
First.
Happy endings. Not likely at first glance, but if this one wasn't true, Neo would have died by Agent Smith long ago.
Second
Major characters don't die (Unless they screw up salary deals) vis a vis, Neo, trinity, Morpheus, and Smith will all be around for the third movie.
Third.
The EMP generates a sperical blast of electromagnetic energy. When the squiddies were disabled at the end of the movie, energy only appeared around each one in a very limited radius. Therefore it was NOT an EMP off a ship. I think it's Neo. I still think the matrix whithin a matrix idea is maintained by this.

Main characters die all the time! Gandalf died in LOTR

. Right? Right? Come one guys, back me up here! The bottom line is this: even if you did kill off neo, no one would notice since his character says about two words and never changes his facial expression. Best to just replace him with a board with a scary face drawn on it.

Maximus from Gladiator
Han Solo (well, he did come back)
Darth Vader (I'm really hitting the Star Wars, aren't I?)
Tasha Yar
Spock (well, ........ nevermind)
Kirk in Generations
Optimus Prime
Anything Shakespearean
Any medieval fantasy by Terry Brooks
The Great Escape
Ripley (though, yes, she was cloned..........and will be starring in the 5th and 6th films.........I'm serious)
Hopefully the entire cast of 2 Fast 2 Furious
Granted, good guys dying in films is rather uncommon (unless, they come back some how). However, I think Neo will die in the third one or at least be taken from that world (perhaps to the "true" matrix, or to the matrix outside that matrix outside that matrix.......well, you get the idea

).
Reeves has said that the 1rst was about birth, the 2nd about tribulation, and the 3rd about death. We'll just have to see who it is that pushes up daisies. Though, if everyone's right about the whole Christ thing, Neo's toast (though, technically, he all ready did experience his death and resurrection......which is why, if the movie does abide by traditional Christian views, he's going to ascend).

Fast Furious 2 was half decent. If they hadn't talked the entire flick it wouldn't have made a difference.

Han, for all intents and purposes, was as good as dead. He was essentially a vegetable wrapped in carbonite. Note the paranthesized comment afterwards, also. His life being uncertain was one of the reasons I liked Empire best.

I was doing a backup on a hard drive and a bunch of picture file names went by that said "Hans solo" and then a date after it. Turns out the kids name is Hans and he's on his own in the picture.
