Any water balloon should work. One just needs to regulate the psi going into the barrel. It's like a paintball gun. No matter what the input psi, unless they regulate it down to about 60 - 80 psi the balls will just shear apart.

A regulated dump chamber will work. The dude's mortar and bazooka show that. H3ll, he releases about 5 at a time per shot. A quick, even release is the key. If we use a sabot, we should be able to shoot them even easier. Smaller balloons would have a thicker skin, too.

If concern over the water balloon still exists, use the medical tubing grenades. Those buggers would be able to take a HUGE impact load. We'd just need to devise a grenade "pin" that disintegrated on impact.

EDIT:

Dollarama on Wellington by Chapters only has "hand" foam footballs. Diametre is roughly 2" to 3" by my guesss. No nerf rockets.

Throughout the week I'll update this post with all the dollar stores I visit.

Maybe there is a thicker type balloon we could try?

I also like the regulator Idea.

Nerf Rockets are scenario legal and take out tanks, or everyone inside the building you shoot it in. They also eliminate you if you are behind a bunker that is not "rocket-proof".

As long at they're 2" wide, anything will work.

I'll start measuring then. I plan to check out at least one dollar store tonight (there's 3 that I know of on Wellington by the 401).

lol, I don't remember seeing that on my Field Rules Page.
I could see the tank thing, but if I am in a building and a Nerf ball drops in beside me I am going to throw it back at you lol.

Will Adrenaline or Flagswipe allow custom launchers?

Living Legends/Viper Scenario's does.

Heck, they allow RC cars outfitted with mines:

Since Viper is running Canadian Carnage they'll likely be open to home brew.

Check out this thread for DIY drones capable of that lift capacity.

Here are some pics of my KipKay spec launcher that Nik and I built.

I'm also working on a second one that is a larger more RPG type launcher which should be ready for Saturday.

I found some nerf rockets at Walmart that fit almost perfectly.

They are just a tiny bit too small to create a good seal so I used a couple of wraps of hockey tape and they shoot great now. I picked hockey tape because it has a cloth back that provides a low friction surface inside the tube.

I agree with Bob, if there's no paint, there's no point. As Nik mentioned we tested a water balloon but the Co2 busted it right away in the chamber. I have been able to modify these little rockets however to carry a water balloon payload filled with paint that will burst on impact and not in the barrel. The results are pretty awesome. I'll post a video of my testing later tonight.

Making paint is the easy part, though.

put water in a pot. put the food coloring you want in. bring to a boil while adding as much cornstarch or flour that you want (and no, cornstarch or flour will not stain). Mess with the consistency a little. after this, put a cover on it and put it in the freezer/frig to cool down and solidify a little.

No food colouring for straight, whitish fill. People also substitute washable paint from craft stores.

I also never said I would shoot it at you at your field without first establishing it as a rule. That would be like me shouting "I just called in an airstrike and you 3 over there are dead!"

Most scenario games limit the number of rocket launchers per squad.

This is great for us, but i fear that Canadian Carnage wouldn't allow it.

For them we can just use regular lame nerf rockets.

Here's the mini rocket with the paint balloon payload onboard. The tape acts as a compression ring to keep a snug fit.

Here's the video of the test fire. I think you'll agree that if someone got hit with that they would know it :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dynM0_Dntzo&feature=youtu.be

I didn't edit the video so there is about 25 seconds of waiting before the good part. There was quite a bit of splatter as well, afterwards I was cleaning up spots 10-15 feet away.

Uh, yeah, I think they'd notice

The predator noises coming out of the barrel seal the cake!

Will we need to chrono these in? How much do the balloon rockets weigh (roughly)? I know Homey B had discussed, for the balloons anyway, whether we would maybe only be able to use them above 22.5 degrees or something like that. Ie. no direct face shots.

The rockets themselves are really light but with the balloon and the paint in there it adds quite a bit of weight, I can weigh one and get back to you.

Yeah, I think we'll have to chrono for sure. I'm sure the speed will be pretty variable but maybe we can figure out a top end. It's possible to reduce the speed by removing a few layers from the compression ring and let more gas out around the rocket but it still needs to hit hard enough to break the balloon.

Maybe we could just make a rule about not using them closer than 10 feet or something.
