What marked the book out as more than a mere comedic romp was the density of ideas that Adams managed to distil in the text.

I think that reviewers need to realize that this "density of ideas" just isn't going to be possible with a film and still keep the running time under 3 hours.

Understandably perhaps, huge swathes of the novel have been cut in order to make a consistent, story-led film.

He says he understands...but doesn't seem to keep this in mind while writing the review, just because his personal favorite parts of the novel have been cut out doesn't make it a bad film.

I think this is going to be the biggest problem with reviewers and this movie, everyone has parts they loved from the novel and they will be disappointed when they are not present in the film.

I think I'd like to see a review of the movie by someone who has never read the books, perhaps they would be able to give a more objective opinion. On the other hand maybe it really is bad, and I am just vainly clinging to the hope that this film will some how do justice to the books we all loved.

Im thinking more that the reason he didnt like the film was not because things were cut or favourite parts werent in it... More that the film was simply not funny...

I'd like to point out this quote again...
A lot of effort has gone in to keeping the film as faithful to Adams' vision as possible. But somewhere in the production process the crew has lost sight of the fundamental aspect of the books - they were immensely funny.

This worried me from the start when I head an AMERICAN director and writer were working on it... Americans can rarely grasp British humour, let alone adapt it from books.

No, they arent breasts, they're personalities, because its ok to like a girl for her personalities
