Sinegubko speculates they belong to careless administrators who allowed their root passwords to be sniffed.

Well, if we're going by that argument than over 1/2 of Winbl0w's security breaches would be averted

And probably ALL of *BSD's would be gone

I don't really see this as a surprise as PEBKAC is easily the #1 reason problems exist on systems.

Not a linux only problem per se, but a big problem for SSL and HTTPS security:
