Forward = Down, makes sense to me. The only real analogy that applies is flying an airplane, and in that context inverted is the correct way.

If the desk is the plane of reference then moving the mouse forward moves the view down, just like in a plane.

Which plane, though? He never specified xy, yz, xz, or even the imaginary ones. Yes, the desk is a plane, but you could still label the movement up or forward.

Well, really we are arguing over the difference between forward and up, which I will admit is a pretty retarded argument.

Probably in the end anyone could get used to either method, It just depends what you learned on.

No, I think it largely depends on the way your mind works. I started on inverted but I couldn't get the hang of it. I switched over to Normal mouse movement and went from there. I cant use inverted at all.

I learned how to play video games on someone elses config, but they have since switched there mouse movement. Weird....

I agree 100% with Paul. the first time I played a game, It was on a non-inverted config, I played for 10 sec and said "Is there any way to switch the way I look?" and there you have it, I play inverted.
