Well now paul got me thinking about the Hard Drives
But I think the answer would be a Burner just because there is alot of shit that I don't use everyday and I can just archive it.

But Jew, you must also factor in the speed difference. The HD's will alllow for high speed accsess to the data. In adition the HD' s space if more flexable. eg. Cashing data for Ripping.
For me it would be a toss up, DvD Burning does indeed make a hell of a back up system. and the price is damn cheap!

Either way has its advantages and disadvantages. With the DVD-burner, you have to buy media, which isnt cheap (When compared to standard CDR's).
If you go the HDD route, you will run out of space again, if you dont manage it differently.
In the end its just a judgement call on what you need to get rid of. I suggest burning all your movies onto cd's, which should clean up Gigs, but you might have done that already.

It sounds like he just wants backup so speed isn't a factor.
Plus, $1.50 for a DVD; $.30 for a CD.
But the DVD has more than 5 times the capacity so it is actually cheaper per mb.
