I fully realize that. No operating system is perfect. It's just that Linux is the lesser of 2 evils. And you're still missing the "new" point (this, again, being the Win2003 thread
) about this thread--it's about serving. Whether you partake in it or not, Linux still represents the zenith of server OSes.
And, if ya wanna be a stickler, you ARE using Linux RIGHT NOW! How? What's the message board hosted on?

Coming Back to Windows 2003 Server
I was watching a presentation on it and the shadow copy of all your shared folders is really cool.
This makes it very simple for those girls in the office that delete things on "Accident" or just don't know how to save properly.
Matt I know you would appreciate watching this.

Untill Linix becomes as super easy to undersand, drivers are at your fingertips and all the games and softwere out the comes with linux drivers on them and will install and run as soon as you get it then i will stay with windows i have no problems with windows so if it ant broken the whey the hell try to fix it.
Pluse
Dempsey we have had a poll on this and well im pritty shure that Win XP won by 2.2% I think
If theres gona be a good poll there shold be one that is What operating system are you running right now. Ge i think windows would realy kick ass then now wouldent it hmmmm. Ya thats what i thought.
first, windows is broken, they should fix it
second, if you had a poll to ask which OS people used, I would have to vote for both since I use both, and I'm sure most others run both or just linux. You said yourself that you use KNOPIX to fix broken Win-Installs
[PX]PimpinMatt wrote:Ya I use Kinopix or Klinopx (not shure how to spell)(this is pauls version of linix for jason reference) when im trying to get someones computer to go when the fuck up windows so bad that it wont even boot.
So even you use both from time to time. and what do you use Linux for? to FIX windows, how bizarre!
[PX]PimpinMatt wrote:what im realy getting at is drivers and games i want to play a game as soon as i buy it not wait untill someone makes it work on linix.
and drivers are a breeze to find for Linux, that is if it's even worth installing...
Patience is a virtue, my friend.
[PX]PimpinMatt wrote:i could give to shit about serving though. I dont have a sever and if i did i wouldnt be using i to serv over the internet i would be seving just me in my house.
All i can realy say is that Linix has it falts aswell Jason its not he all mighty OS ya know.
even for serving your own needs you should go with the best.
Linux is the all-mighty OS. All hail Tux!
When it comes to OSes, Linux is Jesus, Windows is Judas. 'nuff said

Matt I would like to address your key points here.
1. Driver support. Linux currently has better driver support than Windows does. Dont believe me? Find the shittiest, oldest, most ridiculously outdated piece of hardware, then let linux find drivers for it. If the company that makes the hardware doesnt make linux drivers, someone else will. Its that simple. You have seen Knoppix boot off of every computer (I myself havent found a computer that wont boot it) it finds drivers for everything.
2. Serving. It has been proven time and again that Linux is better for Serving. Most major companies either have Unix or Linux based server. Most game servers are linux. Any yokel that can click a mouse can set up a mandrake server.
3. Windows isnt "broken": My ass! How many times have you had to repair a machine because of a windows crash or witnessed one on your own machine? I personally have seen hundred, and fixed many more. If that doesnt make windows broken, well then I dont know what will. I personally have never seen a linux crash. I assume that they exist, but they are few and far between. I know for a fact that my brother ran a Mandrake server for 6.5 months without ever reebooting it, even after installing updates. Hmmmmmm, how often do you restart your windows machine??? once a day, maybe twice?? Ask bob how often he restarts his server.
4. Gaming. Games coded for linux run 10% faster than their windows counterparts. Most major games come with a linux port right on the cd (any Q3 engine game, UT, UT2K3) or the port can be downloaded very very easily (NWN, SS, SS2). Aside from that, any game that doesnt have a port can be emulated with Wine. Sure there is a performance loss, but not much and to be quite honest, who cares. I'd take a performance loss over a stability boost any day. Not having to reboot my computer at a LAN party at all is great.
5. Daily Usage: While many of us dont use linux right now, thats going to change. The lack of adoption is not from hypocrisy on my part, its from lack of time. Give it a little time and the majority of us will be running linux, and crashing the pathetic windows machines with a simple command. I'd love to see windows server 2003 deal with the "ping -f" command.
That is all

Yeah, the file shadowing thing has the potential to be rather interesting (I ACTUALLY watched the flash presentation). Interesting, but I think more of a gimmick, personally. It will help out the super big companies worried about disk space, but I think we should concentrate on making computer users less retarded and able to save properly, I think.
For me, Office since 97 has all ready basically had this option. I've always had mine turned on to keep a backup of my saved work. And for me, if I double backed up ALL my MS Office style work, it might be an extra 50 mb (this is a HIGHLY lax guess, though). So it wouldn't really apply to me personally.
At least they're trying to cut down on operating costs. I'll give them kudos for that.
On a side note, all the big companies that this would affect have gobs of loot for storage space (what's another few terabytes, eh?) and are most likely running linux (ie. any of the servers bought from IBM)
***EDIT***
-fixed 3 grammar and 1 spelling mistake

Ya alot of info in those Videos there Pinto. I will indeed be getting a copy of Server for my server that I hope i will have going someday?.
I gota say one thing that i found very funny about the videos though i beleve in the first one i saw there subject for a example was a guy named
Bobby!
that is some funny shit for the reason that Bobby is the one here that i beleave is the only true lover of Linix because he dont have windows anymore. Shure shure you all have expresed your hate for windows and yes i have herd all the bs. Untill you stop using windows you in my eyes still like it. Prove me wrong by getting rid of it hmmmm. Utill then i am not convinced by you words.
Another note Windows is not broken at all. Its just dumb ass people that are using it wrong. Deleting shit or installing shit that will fuck up the system. In my eyes there is nothign wrong with windows its just dumb people using it.
Nik i do infack use a type of linix when i repair a comp but it not just because its linix its because its a op that will run of a cd. If windows came out with a op that runs off a cd them well i would most likely use it but untill then, like i said befor if its not broken why the hell try to fix it.

The length of time before the memory error kicks in is 47.9 days I think. Windows does have errors. Let's not be so blind that we don't recognize that. I've had XP spontaneously reboot on me (it was programmed just to reboot, not blue screen by default. I could turn it off and get BSOD with X-Setup, though before XP completely died on me).
Hey, I'm all for eliminating errors. Compile a list and send them to Homey B--let him worry about them
***EDIT***
-days added along with BSOD info

I'll even help out:
Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 550 : Sender address rejected: Access Denied: This server is for HotPOP.com users ONLY, email support@HotPOP.com for assistance.
DEBUG MODE
Line : 40
File : /var/websites/knsa/php/phpBB2/includes/smtp.php
I get this when I respond sometimes when I respond. I think it's cuz Homey B's server can't take 2 people responding at the same time. However, the message always still works so it's not a big concern of mine.
