The idea of parry is to prevent you from getting hit in the face when you dont want dodge
Its intended use is for when you're fighting with weapons such as vibroaxes

I like the idea of a bonus on the next attack. Tell me which you think is better:
A bonus of 1/2 of whatever your parry rolls beat your opponents by, or a standard 2 pip bonus for beating the opponent's roll by 8 or more?
This only applies if you attack your attacker.

I think the 2 pip bonus might be more balanced...
Im not sure...
Like I said, Melee Parry is actually supposed to be for when you're using weapons and you dont want to waste an action by dodging.

Upon further reading, Melee parry is there because you cannot use dodge to avoid melee attacks, Dodge is strictly for ranged attacks.

That's what I thought. I will think about it and let you know tomorrow what I have decided. I also figured that parry involves making contact with the opponent or their weapon, while dodging is getting out of the way. Like I said, I'll think about it and post my answer tomorrow.

Ok. I am going to include the parry bonus as a new house rule. It will be as follows:
On a successful parry that beats the opponent's parry by 10 or more, you will get a bonus of +2 to the next attack on that character. You can choose to add this +2 to the roll to hit, or for damage, but not both. The attack must be done before you perform any other actions, or there will be no bonus. This bonus also applies to NPCs. Make sure that you announce what you are using the bonus for when you post the attack.
I think that the combat system is pretty simple, and a parry really is meant to get the upper hand on your opponent, so I have decided to include this rule.

Gentlemen, we got 20 calls about the David Hyde-Pierce incident. And as you know, one call equals a billion people, which means 20 billion people were offended by this

No
You can only use melee parry if you are using a weapon to parry. IE, a knife or club or vibro axe.
You cannot parry a melee weapon with your hands, and similarily you cannot parry hand with a melee weapon. The appropriate skill must be used and the conditions must be met.

He swung at you with a knife yes?
Therefore if you had a knife out or draw a knife, you can use melee parry with that. You jsut cant use melee parry with your bare hands.

Melee parry can be used to parry brawling and melee attacks, but must be done when using a weapon. (P. 40 of the second edition rulebook)
Brawling Parry is used when you are unarmed and attempting to avoid a brawling or melee attack. (P. 39)
The skills apply to the defender's currently used weaponry, not the attacker's. Dodge is used against ranged attacks, but the parries can be used against any hand-to-hand attacks. If you are armed you use melee parry, if unarmed, brawling parry.
The skills represent your ability to defend yourself, and are thus separate from the combat abilities, because practically anyone can use a sword to cut something, but few people know how to defend themselves with one, the same is true for martial arts techniques. (this doesn't really apply to this situation, but should help everyone understand the abilities a bit better.)
