Really, they arent that much different
I've seen the game on a GeForce 2 GTS and to be honest, it looked no different than it did on my Radeon 9500 Pro.

The engine isnt that impressive.

I saw the edit, and I looked at the level of detail differences.
They arent all that noticable. The engine has its strong points, but I refuse to classify it as a next-gen engine or even a very powerful engine. Its still using Quake 1 code for god's sake.

Well, the fact that it still has a DirectX 6 path seems to agree with your assessment.

I'd also like to point out the fact that Carmack openly said that the source engine still uses some Quake 1 code.

I'll see if I cant find the article. He was discussing open sourcing his engines and why they pushed back the quake 3 engine being made open source. He mentioned that its getting harder and harder to ensure that no one is going to lose profit from it because code gets recycled so often, ie Quake 1 in source..

Half Life 2 Rules!
When Steven Seagal kills a ninja, he only takes its hide. When Chuck Norris kills a ninja, he uses every part.

Chuck Norris and Mr. T walked into a bar. The bar was instantly destroyed, as that level of awesome cannot be contained in one building.

So now they're showing off what they should've had at launch:

It's a sign of good design that the engine is so scaleable that they can easily implement these new kinds of cutting-edge features.

When I'm fed sh!t, I don't call it chocolate.

Recheck the movies and the interviews. HDR was supposed to be available from the start. The movie in the building with the light coming through and the ant lion on the roof was the one to showcase it.

And I found it here (Search for Quake 3 Source. Its in that paragraph).

There are still bits of early Quake code in Half Life 2, and the remaining licensees of Q3 technology intend to continue their internal developments along similar lines, so there probably won’t be nearly as sharp a cutoff as before.

I rest my case

It think that their summer release date is a little unreasonable...although they seem to think steam will let them develop content faster.

I think that your double post is silly...

I also think that they'll just use STEAM as an excuse to push out buggy code before its finished and then spend the next 8 months patching it.
