from what i heard tell they wanted to elect a pop that wouldnt be around as long as the last one... though that may have just been a rumor
Gentlemen, we got 20 calls about the David Hyde-Pierce incident. And as you know, one call equals a billion people, which means 20 billion people were offended by this

This seems to be the accepted theory. A long living pope would have to fill JPII shoes (or so the public would most likely think). This one is, most likely, just a transitional pope.


Granted, the last "transitional" pope brought in the Vatican II so ya never know.

It's hard to tell from the photo's on the site, I think it might be the serious one though.
