AMD Pro?

ok guys i am so outta the loop
this is directed more at jason/john/paul but anyone who has info feel free...
ok heres the deal i have been looking for something cheap to hook to one of the tvs so the house can watch some of my movies..
the question is i have come across a
CPU: AMD Pro 3100+ CPU
Motherboard: AMD Pro 3100+ mother board
Video: 128 bit 2D/3D engine video accelerator
Audio: Sound Blaster compatible AC97 sound
Network Card: 10/100 network onboard
Case: Deluxe ATX case

for 175 cnd shipping would be 30 bucks or there abouts... what the hell is the 3100 pro? never heard of it... anyone know what the deal here is?

I have no idea what speed the Duron is running at. The proc isn't 3100+. That's what the system package is called. Rather misleading if you ask me. It could be the new Applebred (?) cores...........or it could be even worse than the Duron Homey B fried a ways back.

Basically, buyer beware. Ask the retailer what speed the proc is because everywhere I've seen it they always hide that detail.

It's out of date as it doesn't include the ultra rare Applebreds. I've only seen them before as a news item. Never really looked for them. They were Durons at 1.6 Gigs.

Heck, even AMD's Duron spec sheet doesn't list them:

Maybe they never made them in bulk. I'd spend the extra $50 and make it myself. At least then I'd know what I'm getting. Your cash..........your call.

TOTAL $255 before tax

Shop around and you could maybe get that down to $230. Heck, I might have a Duron 700 or 1 gig Athlon that I'll sell ya. Break out a pencil and you could have yourself a bit of overclocking fun.

Your post didn't say anything about kb, mouse, monitor, floppy, DVD, etc. so I left them out.

EDIT3:

Just noticed my Duron was the 1.6 Gig. Maybe the Apple core never made mass production and they just ramped up the Morgan core a bit more. Dunno. But that 1.6 isn't even on Tom's list; however, I know they exist. Thus, the price attached to the cpu up above.

I'd be wary of that processor as well, my parents bought a 2500+ duron - presoldered into the board...seemed like a good deal at the time but Si clocks it at slower than an 1800.

It's fine for them but the packaging was a little missleading as the Jew suggested.

AFAIK Duron's don't go above 1.8 gigs. However, it's not something I've researched extensively.
